Am I too old to learn a new trade?

how old to learn a trade?

When you hear “Skills Centre” you probably assume that all the people studying here are in their 18 to mid-20s, but you’d be wrong. Want to train to be a welder at 40? You can. Want to train to become a fully qualified electrician and start up your own business at 18? Anything’s possible!

At Skills Centre, not only can you work from home before visiting one of our nationwide training centres, but we work around your day to day life so you can do whatever you need to with friends, family, or other work commitments, and still have time to develop your trades skills to obtain those important NVQs and over qualifications.

We mention in our adverts to apply if you are between the ages of 18-57. This is our suggestion as this is the typical age range of people who are in full-time education or employment, whereas people over the age of 57 are typically retired or close to it. If you are over this age and are interested in training to become a fully qualified tradesperson then, by all means, do get in touch.

Here is a brief rundown of how our courses work:

  • Study from the comfort of your own home via our bespoke manuals and our amazing virtual software, allowing you to learn and perform a range of basic skills for your chosen trade sector to prepare you for future practical learning.
  • Once enough home learning has been completed, you will be invited to one of our nationwide training centres where you will hone your skills in a covid-safe learning environment. All the tools you need are provided, and you will be assessed and guided throughout the process by a fully qualified and experienced assessor.
  • Soon after, you will be able to experience on-site learning at one of a range of sites around the UK. At these locations, you will complete real work that will benefit people in the future. Other competitors do not offer this experience and require you to do an apprenticeship to obtain the NVQ level 3, whereas here we do it all as a part of the course.
  • Once all of this training is completed, you will be ready to enter the working world again and look to obtain your relevant job, or even start one for yourself.

Skills Centre seeks to help anyone become a fully qualified tradesman that wants to, no matter the age. We look forward to hearing from you and hearing your reasons for wanting to enter this exciting industry.
