Our Multi-Skilled Bricklayer Course is designed for complete beginners and those with some existing experience. This is a practical, hands-on programme delivered by dedicated tutors in small classes of up to 12 students.

Your Carpenter Training Begins
This is a competence-based qualification. This means you will not be sitting in a traditional classroom or taking online exams; instead, your skills are measured by how you perform your job in the real world.
Real-World Assessment
The assessment takes place directly in your work environment. You demonstrate your skills under real working conditions, ensuring that your qualification reflects actual industry standards.
Building Your Portfolio of Evidence
To achieve your qualification, you are required to produce evidence that demonstrates you have met all learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit.
What counts as evidence?
Portfolio of Evidence: A comprehensive collection of your work records.
Assessor Observations: A qualified assessor watches you work and records your performance.
Worksheets & Reports: Records of specific assignments, projects, or daily work tasks.
Professional Questioning: Records of oral and written questions to verify your understanding of tasks.
Standards & Criteria
Your performance is measured against specific Learning Outcomes, which set out exactly what you are expected to know, understand, or be able to do. Assessment Criteria then specify the precise standard you must meet to prove that each learning outcome has been achieved.
What You Will Learn
The Core (Mandatory for Everyone)
Every student, regardless of their chosen pathway, must complete these three fundamental units that build the foundation for safe and efficient site work:
Health & Safety: Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace.
Efficiency: Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace.
Resource Management: Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace.
Choose Your Specialist Pathway
Depending on your career focus, you will choose one of eight routes. Below are the requirements for the two primary pathways:
Pathway 1: Site Carpentry
Focus: Installing components and erecting structural carcassing in the workplace.
Requirements: Candidates must complete three units from the following options:
Installing first fixing components in the workplace.
Installing second fixing components in the workplace.
Erecting structural carcassing components in the workplace.
Maintaining non-structural carpentry work in the workplace.
Installing fire resisting timber door assemblies and doorsets in the workplace.
Setting up and using transportable cutting and shaping machines in the workplace.
Pathway 2: Architectural Joinery
Focus: Marking out and manufacturing routine architectural products.
Requirements: Candidates must complete two mandatory units plus one optional unit:
Mandatory: Marking out from setting out details for routine architectural joinery products.
Mandatory: Manufacturing routine architectural joinery products in the workplace.
Optional: Producing setting out details for routine architectural joinery products.
Optional: Setting up and using transportable cutting and shaping machines.
How You Are Assessed
There are no online exams or classroom tests. You prove your competence through a Portfolio of Evidence collected directly at your workplace.
Your portfolio will include:
Observations: Reports by your assessor while they watch you carry out practical tasks live.
Evidence: This includes assignments, projects, reports, and completed worksheets.
Knowledge: Records of oral and written questioning to prove you understand the professional standards required for your trade.
