Your Bricklayer Training Begins

This is a competence-based qualification. This means you won’t be sitting in a traditional classroom or taking online exams. Instead, your skills are measured by how you perform your job in the real world.

Real-World Assessment

All practical assessment for this qualification must be carried out in a real working environment. Evidence of workplace skills cannot be simulated, ensuring that your qualification reflects the actual standards and pressures of the construction industry.

To achieve your qualification, you are required to produce a Portfolio of Evidence. This is a comprehensive collection of records that demonstrates you have achieved all learning outcomes and met every assessment criterion.

What counts as evidence?

  • Assessor Observations: A qualified assessor watches you carry out practical work and records your performance.

  • Candidate Products: Physical examples or “products” of the brickwork you have completed.

  • Professional Discussions: Recorded conversations where you explain your technical knowledge and methods.

  • Witness Testimonies: Commentary from a suitably qualified or experienced expert who has seen you working.

  • Worksheets & Questioning: Records of oral and written questions used to verify your understanding of specific tasks

  • Assignments & Projects: Written reports or projects related to your brickwork activities

  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): Credit for skills and knowledge you have already mastered through previous experience.

Assessment is the process of measuring your skill, knowledge, and understanding against the professional standards set in the qualification. You must demonstrate the exact level of competence described in the units to pass

What You Will Learn

Every student starts with these three fundamental units that build the foundation for site work:

  • Health & Safety: Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace.

  • Efficiency: Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace.

This is a competence-based qualification. There are no online exams or classroom tests; instead, you prove your skills through a Portfolio of Evidence collected directly in a real working environment.

Your portfolio will include:

  • Observations: Reports created by your assessor while watching you carry out practical tasks live on-site.

  • Evidence: This includes “Candidate Products” (photos or videos of your finished brickwork), witness testimonies from experienced colleagues, and project reports.

  • Knowledge: Records of oral and written questioning and professional discussions to prove you understand the reasoning and safety requirements behind your practical work.
