Our Construction Plant Operations Apprenticeship is designed for learners with little or no prior experience. From your first day of training right through to becoming a competent plant operator, we guide you every step of the way with industry-recognised teaching and assessments. Whether you work on building sites, infrastructure projects, railways or utilities, the apprenticeship prepares you for real, hands-on work.
Training is flexible and built around your employment. With strong employer partnerships, our approach has a proven track record across all ability levels. You’ll receive the knowledge, practice and guidance you need to progress quickly and safely.
As part of the programme, you’ll develop competence in operating key plant machinery and gain the skills required to work professionally within the construction sector.
Work Placements
Your apprenticeship combines workplace employment with off-the-job training at our dedicated centres or approved providers. Placements and practical experience will be arranged local to you where possible. Important Eligibility Requirements All apprentices must be UK residents, aged 16+, employed (or seeking employment) in a relevant role, and hold a valid National Insurance number. Proof may be required during enrolment.

This Level 2 Apprenticeship is designed for complete beginners and those with some experience. It’s a practical, hands-on programme delivered through employer-led training and expert tutors. Your Construction Plant Operative Apprenticeship Begins
From day one, you’ll build the skills and experience needed to become a fully competent construction plant operative. The programme supports complete beginners as well as those with prior knowledge, giving you a clear route into the industry. All training emphasises practical, hands-on learning with experienced mentors. You’ll be supported throughout to ensure real professional competence.
What You Will Learn
You’ll develop the core skills required to work as a safe, competent plant operative, including:
- Checking, preparing and safely operating key plant machinery (e.g., 360-degree excavator, forward tipping dumper, ride-on roller, forklift/telehandler)
- Plant and vehicle marshalling/directing
- Basic maintenance, cleaning and checks on machinery
- Working safely on construction, demolition, rail and utility sites
- Following health, safety and environmental procedures
Training is delivered to exceed industry requirements, preparing you fully for site work.
