TradeSkills4U asked their followers to take part in a survey to get a better understanding of what’s been happening during lockdown and an overall view of how much electricians have been charging. These results vary due to the wide spectrum of people who have had more or less electrician training.
They asked their social media followers the following question “Have you been financially impacted by COVID & the latest UK lockdown?”. They received nearly 120 responses and 80% of the surveyed electricians and electrical contractors have admitted they have been financially impacted by COVID and the lockdown restrictions that have happened in the UK.
How much does an electrician earn?
There are 3 ways that electricians charge for their work. Fixer fee per job, hourly rate or a day rate. Usually, electricians will price for specific jobs rather than hourly rates but this can be a good place to start. So how do they price up jobs? The results varied between looking at competitors/colleagues (20% answered this), industry websites (10%), price on application (50%), and industry average (20%).
If a job is going to take a day or more, the average daily rate is between £200 and £250. Things to take into consideration such as expenses, taxes and materials; all will need to be factored into the final price. On average, a standard electrician’s hourly rate is roughly £40 per hour but their emergency hourly rate ranges upwards of £80 per hour.
